What Are the Symptoms of an STD?
STAT MED Urgent Care provides routine medical care for patients throughout San Francisco’s East Bay. Sometimes, those needs involve questions about sexually transmitted disease (STD) symptoms and prompt clinical lab testing. We want our patients to be informed about their sexual health – that’s why we’ve listed some common STD symptoms for both men and women. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, visit us today. Our fully equipped centers in Concord, Dublin, Lafayette, and Livermore do not require appointments.
STD symptoms in women
- Unusual discharge
- Itching around the vagina
- A rash in the genital area
- Pain or burning sensations while urinating
- Painful sex
- Bumps or blisters in the genital area
Although not as frequently occurring as the above symptoms, some women experience fever, nausea, vaginal ulcers, pelvic pain, and bleeding between menstrual cycles.
STD symptoms for men
- Spots, bumps, or blisters on or around the penis
- Discharge
- Painful urination or ejaculation
- Itchiness, particularly around the tip of the penis
- A rash in the genital area
Less commonly, men may experience swollen or increasingly tender testicles, rectal pain or bleeding, and flu-like symptoms.
It’s important to note that the most common symptom of STDs in both men and women is no symptoms at all. If you are sexually active, consider taking a proactive approach to your sexual health by receiving STD testing on a routine basis. Of course, promptly visit STAT MED Urgent Care if you notice any of the changes listed above. Our experienced providers can administer appropriate STD testing and provide you with expert guidance about your next steps.
